View Full Version : Virtualized apps cannot display windows - OA free

Hi, having solved the installation issue (thanks to Mike for sending me a key) I am now experimenting with this app and am running into an issue.
When I try to open a virtualized app (eg Word or Excel, but also fe Media Player Classic) no window gets displayed.
If I check their status with ProcessExplorer they have all started up, but as I try >Properties >Bring to the front I obtain the message "No visible windows found for this process". After disactivating the Hips feature of OA, when I start these virtualized apps they become visible again.
They are all registered as "Allowed" under the Programs tab.
Any suggestions? Running XPHome SP2 with the hotfixes.

What do you run to virtualise the apps?

Someone already reported a compatibility issue with thinstall - we'll take a look next week, subject to someone giving us a helping hand with logs

Mike this may be a tough nut. I know even with Sandboxie, OA, doesn't add websites to the my websites tab. In a way knowing what sandboxie is doing this doesn't surprise me.

I tried the other popular virtualiization progrom, I believe Altris, and I couldn't even get it to run.

I have no problem with that Mike, if you let me know what to do.

Mike here is a quick 2 Meg download of KeyPass http://www.thindownload.com/app-download/18/KeePass . Or a larger 100 Meg of OpenOffice 2.04 at the bottom of the page http://thinstall.com/sales/demo.php . If that helps.

thanks

Hi Mike, I was wondering if there are any news about this, thanks.

Mike has been real busy with some issues in the l latest beta's which he just solved. You may have to be real patient on this one.

I absolutely understand this, after all here we are talking about the free version and there have to be priorities in life, it's just that from Mike's latest post above I had the impression it was going to be sooner rather than later that he would take a look.
I'll bid my time :D

Hi newbino. I doubt there is anything you can do for the moment. I have tried most everything to get my Thinstalled Office 2003 to work, but so far no go. I will send Mike the logs in just a bit so he can get with his team and try to find a fix. I thought maybe disabling Program Guard would work as it does for most others, but not so in this case. I can try disabling HIPS, but that will require a reboot. I'll write back if I find anything out about this.

Leland
:D

PS I just finished the reboot to turn off HIPS and guess what, my Thinstalled Office works great. So for the short term turn off the HIPS until this gets fixed.

Thanks Leland for your testing. Re: HIPS off, if you read the last part of my first post, you'll notice that's what I have been doing. :)
