Hi, am trialling OA free - firewall only, as per my other post about virtualized apps I have disactivated the HIPS - and when I run Firefox (2.0.0.8 with addons, full install not virtualized) the CPU usage by oasrv.exe shoots up to around 90% (see attached sample screen) and hangs there

Hi - can you tell me, please:

What other security software you have installed?

Does it still happen if you remove the addons? (Which ones are installed)

The only other security software I have realtime is Nod32 2.7 - I have tried disactivating IMON to no effect.

I have several addons installed, am linking the image listing - however I tried disactivating all of them and the problem persists.

Finally, I am enclosing also a ProcessExplorer screenshot of what's running on my PC at the moment, just in case I also tried closing Word and Excel (the two virtualized culprits from the other post) but it had no effect.

Sorry - can I ask a silly question - if you don't de-activate the HIPS, do you still get this issue?

no question is silly, particularly in this case as you're right, the issue doesn't happen with the HIPS activated - unfortunately then I cannot run my Office apps (and other virtualised ones).

Hm, we're hunting down an interesting bug here. It might be related to one we're currently fixing... hang fire 'till tomorrow and we'll see if that fixes it.

If not - I might ask you to install a logging version.

No problem with the logging version if it comes to that Mike, it's more than fair helping you out as you are sharing OA free.

Try updating to Firefox 2.0.0.9. It's just out and I remember reading that 2.0.0.8 had some compatibility problems that 2.0.0.9 addresses.

Just an idea to maybe see if Firefox is part of the problem.

Hi,

seems to be correct here, because newbino is trialing OA free too.

With Version 2.1.0.31 I wanted to check out the Firewall only, which I didn’t do with previous versions.
After installation I canceled the Wizard (no need for Firewall only…), deactivated HIPS Features after restart and deleted everything in Programs and Startup items.

First started eMule, everything seemed fine until… I clicked at any http link within eMule.
Doing so, for example clicking at “Search for newer version…” which opens up a Firefox window, the CPU-usage from oasrv.exe goes to 50 % and stays there forever, even if I closed eMule and deactivate the Firewall in OA config menu.

The only way out was to shutdown OA and manual restart OA from desktop link.

Second I started Azureus, it was exactly the same: click “What’s new”, as soon as Firefox window came up oasrv.exe was at 50 % CPU-usage.

Rebooted, started Firefox 2.0.0.9, clicked at an http link within a page: oasrv.exe at 50 % CPU-usage.

No Log message to show, no bug report to send, just 50 % CPU-usage (Dual Core).

Clueless again, seems like a serious bug for me.

Cheers

Hi - this one will require logs to solve, I'm sorry to say. It sounds like some kind of strange conflict or config issue.

Your link give me a "page not found"(well similar)

Closing FF does not change the situation, I need to restart OA. I am havingI have only just started to look at OA again, but what you put forward I have seen with other HIPS. I am not sure the reason yet, if this is due to installation/hooking methods, or a problem with ff2,... or some combination of installed drivers/FF etc.

I will cetainly put forward any findings.

Do you see a lot of traffic in the OA Firewall logs?

Hi,

fisrt of all, this thread is about OA Free and now that there is a separate section it should be moved there.

Second, I downloaded again the latest version and same thing happened, so I had to disinstall it again.

Am available to try a logging version if it may be of use

The only other security software I have realtime is Nod32 2.7 - I have tried disactivating IMON to no effect. This will not actually change the installation of IMON or any possible problems related to this.

If you have time, and dont mind, could you uninstall NOD2.7, then re-install in custom, so that you can disable the installation of IMON. I am not saying that this is the direct problem, but I have seen problems with firewalls and IMON due to the changes made by IMON to the LSP(Layer Service Provider).
I do have NOD2.7 installed myself, but I have not used/installed IMON for over 18 months due to problems with the other firewalls I install.(I am currently struggling to find any spare time, so I cannot setup to test for this possible problem at this time)

stem, I tried your suggestion to no avail.

As I had OA already unsinstalled I first uninstalled Nod32, rebooted, then installed OA Free latest version, rebooted. Everything fine.

I then switched off HIPS (I have a problem with it - if it runs I can't open my virtualized apps) and rebooted. The same issue as before came up even before I tried to reinstall Nod32 in custom as you suggested, so I didn't even try the experiment with IMON.

As Mike was thinking in one of his earlier posts, and other posters have confirmed, this seems a OA bug.
