Hi Mike
I know you've been having a bit of a nightmare with servers etc lately, and I suspect that this message is due to a similar thing, but I just tried a manual update of OA +AV and it eventually came back with a systray popup stating "Automatic Update" " Socket Error 10060" "Connection Timed Out".
If this is due to server load/downtime, then may I suggest that the error message should be a bit more "mum-friendly" ? (or marko friendly for that matter !).
It's just that teckie messages like "socket error" don't mean much to the less savvy user, and they may think there's a problem with their pc, rather than it being a problem with the update ?
Just a thought.
Well impressed with the product and support by the way - can't wait for OA2 with firewall so I can ditch Zonealarm Pro.

yeah I got that too, but now that the forum is up, there is still some kind of update problem - I opened the gui and on its own it is just sitting there saying it is checking, but it just is staying that way, not doing anything.
I also see in History today Read Timeout, and 10054 Connection reset by peer (a different socket error).

my OA (updated successfully it says in history much earlier today) says KAS sigs 198005 at 10:40 AM GMT-05, but KAS website says 197171 and gives a -later- time of 21:53 GMT+04! So how is this? Or do I have the math wrong: 21=9, and -4-5 = 12:53pm which later than my 10:40 is by 2 hrs and 13 minutes, about, and says same day of 7-28-06..

still says "checking" for update after about 33 minutes, and the forum is up, so is it a different server having the problem or is it in the software?
Edit: Oh no! what the ...! now a red splat is on the tray icon, but in the gui a check mark is right there saying the AV should be on! something is wrong. :(
Edit 2: now I try to right click on tray icon and click shut down OA and click yes to the popup, but the tray icon stays there, OA not cooperating in shutting down.
Edit 3: nevertheless, I have now clicked on "start filesystem scan" and it is doing the scan, it seems. the first time I clicked to show the progress it took a while to do that, and it seemed thus that it might not, but now it is scanning, it says and can show the progress.
--> I stopped the scan and the red splat did not appear again when the tray icon changed back. SO, was the splat erroneous when it was there, or is the lack of a splat now erroreous?
Now I turn of AV (uncheck it) ... waiting ... no red splat (I closed out of the window, too). waiting and no. ok, so I go and put the checkmark back. But how do I know it is actually working?
Ok, so there you have it.

We are having some problems with the server at the moment which may sometimes impact updates :(
Apologies for this inconvenience. It will be resolved for good on Monday as wer'e going back to the original OA server!.

how about the not shutting down bug?
I'll check that too - probably, the update is set to an "infinite" timeout.
