View Full Version : A Squared and OA?

Hi Mike,
I installed A Squared 2.0 and it was in the middle of scanning and Dr. Watson popped up and said "sorry oasrv.exe has encountered a problem and has to close" something like that anyway. Then the icon turned blood red.
I allowed everything for this program. Are there incompatibility issues? If so I didn't know, sorry.
Also in IE Extensions in OA, is there a way to actually remove that extension from the list? I clicked on delete and it changes it to "no" only but it's still in the list.
Thanks

I ran another scan with A Squared to see if I could get some kind of error message that would help.
Error message:
oasrv.exe Error
The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x7c8leb33.
I checked task manager and oasrv.exe was using 74,000K.
Using XP Pro w/SP2 current.

Hi Rilla,
OA and A Squared are fighting at the moment. I'll get this solved ASAP.

For what it's worth, I just ran a-squared Free Version 2.0 (actually 2.0.0.209) and had no compatibility issues with OA AV+, also running XP Pro w/SP2 current. So it looks like OA AV+ and a-squared are now playing well with each other.
The only thing I noticed was (a) the new a-squared GUI looks nicer than the old a-squared GUI (IMHO), and (b) the new a-squared took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to scan my PC. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like there was a dramatic slowdown in their scanning engine (this was run on a 3GHz Pentium 4 HT with 1GB RAM).
Granted, I don't usually sit there staring at the progress(?) bar, but next time at least I'll know I have enough time to wash the car, throw some steaks on the barbecue, and enjoy a nice meal while the scan is still running (although the term 'running' actually invokes visions of speed which are sorely lacking in this version).

Hi Virtual Steve :) ,
I think the problem may also crop up with the paid, realtime version of A2...
Maybe a timing issue at startup when it is resident together with the AV engine of OA, as Mike suggested it.
I have the paid version and if you start A2 MANUALLY at the end of all the startup processes or disable the kav engine before rebooting, no problem at all...
Cheers,
Hervé
