Hi
I use Avast pro as my resident virus protection.

In windows log viewer i get these errors and warnings.

Warning
AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat (C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat) returning error, 00000005.

Error
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat failed, 00000005.

Warning
AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat (C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat) returning error, 00000005.

Error
AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat failed, 00000005.

I believe that this as a access denied.

I have added these two files
C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\server.dat
C:\Program Files\Tall Emu\Online Armor\fwdata.dat
To the exclusion zone in Avast to stop getting the warnings. As avast was not scanning them anyway.

Is the computer at risk since these files can't be scanned for viruses etc.

Cheers pete

The other thing to point out to avast users is that CPF3, at least at early release time, was having much bigger problems with avast. I am not sure if CPF3 has fixed these avast problems yet, but its should be a research question of interest to avast AV users.

Going into what I will label as my personal opinion regarding freeware anti virus choices, I think avast is not in the group of top tier anti virus programs and is out performed by Kaspersky, NOD32, and avira antivirus. But in that better performing group, only antivirus is freeware. And that antivirus lead over avast may well be lost to avast because the freeware version of antivirus does not actively scan incoming emails and avast does. Prevention is always better than after the fact detection.

So that makes both avast and the similarly performing AVG viable choices in the free ware active AV segment.

But thats just my opinion and it might be useful to have a side discussion on anti virus choices on this forum.

From experience on Wilders that is very unproductive. It ends up with everyone putting forth their favorite, and from there goes down hill. The only sure fire way for anyone to know what works for them is to try the various products.

This really isn't a general purpose security forum, it's a place for support for Online Armor. Until Mike Nash says otherwise lets keep it that way.

Thanks,

Pete
