...and I was wondering about the A2 integration. I ran A2 some time back (free) and wasn't impressed with the FP's. By looking at the board here, I don't see a whole lot of complaints about that.
I currently run Avira Premium, and the license expires in a couple of days. Overall, I am pleased with it; but the free version of OA and the support here REALLY impresses me. And I like the fact that Tall Emu seems like a class act. I am also going to get at least OA Paid, and by the time I do that and renew Avira, or buy OA++, the price difference basically non-existent. I do know that Avira hasn't given me headaches, and isn't difficult to set up. I just haven't found a post as yet to really help me understand how A2 in OA works. I'm really looking for easy to set and forget.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
OA ++ uses the A2/Ikarus engine to scan Unknown programs when they try to run. So with OA Free or Premium you would get an alert about an unknown program wanting to run, but it can't tell you if it's infected. With OA ++, it will give you a red popup saying the program is infected by a virus if the A2/Ikarus engine detects something nasty. OASIS (OA's database of trusted programs) is used to reduce false positives.
With ++ you can also do manual scans of your system for malware. Hidden files and alternate data streams are also able to be scanned if you choose during a manual scan.
As with OA Premium, OA ++ has a trial available so you can check it out and see if it suits your needs before purchasing :)

To help you decide, OA++ is on a 25 day trial so that should give you time to see whether or not it suits you.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess the last question is if I download OA++ (which will be an OA Free upgrade install) and decide to go with the Premium instead, would I need to uninstall OA++ and reinstall premium, or just buy the premium and put that key in OA++?

Hi Jim,
If you install OA++ then yes, the premium key will work and it would not be needed to uninstall it.

I hope this isn't too far off topic. In OA ++ Antivirus Settings, I have all the boxes checked, heuristics, hidden files, etc. Do those settings work for both manual scans and scheduled scans? Also is there a log file somewhere where I can see what was scanned?

Yes, they do :)

Sorry, there isn't currently a log feature for AV scans. Maybe Tall Emu will add this in a future version of ++ though :)

Hi Cat,
one question nags me since OA++ became available -
does OA++ scan in "real time"?
Thx

OA ++ scans on execution. The reason for this is that if malware can't execute, then it can't do any harm. If malware tries to execute, OA ++ will alert you.
Manual scans in OA ++ will of course detect any malware sitting on your computer that matches the virus signatures regards of whether it tries to run.

Thanks :)
A very last question. Should I uninstall Avast or can it run concurrently with OA++. What do you recommend?

Due to the way it's designed to work, OA ++ is able to run alongside a separate antivirus program. It's not necessary but some people like to do this. If you'd like to use Avast with OA ++, you should make sure Avast is added to OA's exclusions list (and add OA to Avast's exclusions list if it has one) and they should get along fine together :)

I am now DL the trail version of ++.
What will the cost for the upgrade be for present subscribers to Premium?
The site lists only the straight line cost.
THX.

Tall Emu are still working on an upgrade path from Premium to OA++. For now, if you'd like to upgrade you need to contact them via the contact form to arrange it. The price for the upgrade is the difference in cost between what you paid for your current license and what the cost is for the number of ++ licenses you would like.

Yes, they do :)

Thank you catprincess. :) I guess a scanning log isn't really a necessity, but it is a nice added feature. Like you said, maybe in a future version. :)

A few other people have asked for this too so I'm sure Tall Emu will seriously consider it :)
