Hi

I just tried using Banking Mode and as far as I can see it doesn't seem to work properly.

I set OA to Banking Mode and logged in to my bank site using Firefox. It all worked fine as I have the bank's domain and relevant sub-domains set as trusted in OA.

However, when I'd logged out from my bank, I forgot to turn off Banking mode, and then went to my home page, which is google.co.uk, searched for bbc, and was then able to click on the search results and navigate around the bbc website, even though OA was showing that I was in Banking Mode.

I do not have google or the bbc websites set as Trusted in the OA Web Sites tab (these sites aren't even listed).

I even tried again after clearing Firefox's Browsing History and visited some pages on the bbc website that I've never been to before and they still loaded.

I can't seem to replicate this problem with any other sites, but it definitely seems to allow me to visit any of the bbc pages.

I know the bbc can probably be trusted but I thought Banking Mode was supposed to prevent access to any site that isn't set as Trusted or Protected in OA.

Is this a bug or have I got the wrong end of the stick here ?

I couldn't get to Google (but that may be because mine default to Australia not UK), however I could get to the BBC website while in Banking mode. I'm sure whether there's a reason for this or not though so hopefully Tall Emu can let you know :)

Just played around with it and noticed the same behavior when logging on to amazon.com. Not listed in trusted sites yet still loaded in banking mode. Many images wouldn't display correctly, however, until I went back in to advanced mode. If that means anything.

I believe that such sites as Amazon etc are hard wired as trusted, however the images will probably originate from another source which is not labelled as trusted and hence are not shown.

on my site (outside Australia) banking mode blocks merciless any attempt to access any BBC url I tried! Any web site not in the OA++ web site list is blocked. I have a domain seller web site set as trusted and I am able to access it while in banking mode!
Any attempt to try something else other than listed is blocked!

Trusted sites are accessible in banking mode. This is by design. This will include certain sites that are designated as safe too by us centrally.

Thanks Mike and David.

To add to what Mike has now confirmed, if you prefer not to use OA's list, you can tick 'Ignore OA websites list' in Websites-> Options. Note that this will also then ignore any blacklisted sites that may be on that list as well as any trusted ones.

Hey thanks everyone - that explains it then - I knew it would be something simple :)

Please accept my apologies for posting what I thought was a possible bug.

All I would say is that if this sort of feature was documented in the help it would help us as users, and would probably save the OA team and others time in explaining features that are not particularly obvious (again, sorry if this is already documented somewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere).

I'm very pleased with the product by the way - just adding some constructive criticism about the help file (which I'm sure is on the to do list anyway).

Regards
Marko

It's mentioned here http://www.tallemu.com/webhelp3/Websites.html

Ignore OA Website List – Configures Online Armor so that it does not use the internal list of known websites, treating every website as Unknown instead.

and here http://www.tallemu.com/webhelp3/Banking.html

Instead of exclusively maintaining a list of “bad” websites, Online Armor uses the Trusted list and any websites you define in the Web Sites section of Online Armor. Any connections to sites that are not on these lists will be automatically blocked while in Banking mode.

I should have known this though when I originally answered you but obviously I was having a memory lapse  Sorry about that.
