View Full Version : Online Armor++ and Network Magic (Solved)

Windows security center has been disabled. I never run with the Windows firewall which is always set to off. My Network is controlled by Ciscos Network Magic 5.5.
When I was running OA Premium it was shown in the Network Magic GUI and visible from other Stations as "Online Armor Firewall - Tall Emu..."
Since I use OA++ my firewall is displayed as "Windows Firewall"
I am already concerned my computers are not controlled by OA++ but Windows firewall. Some installation did clearly show it must be OA because the warning dialog appeared several time during setup.
And here we go -
Microsoft says Online Armor is the cause of this phenomenon....
Ciscos Network Magic says it is Windows which is the culprit....
and now I am seeking advise from Tall Emu
Why Windows obviously not registers OA++ as the 3rd party firewall. Read above: Security Control Center (Service) is completely disabled:confused:
Thx

Am I understanding correctly that the Network Magic program has it's own 'Security Center' as such and this is what is reporting that Windows Firewall is active and not OA ++?

Hi, :D no it doesn't have its own security center. It does have a network map GUI which shows all connected computers. Each computer can be accessed and I can view what actually is running on each computer.
Surprisingly Avast is reported but not OA++

hmm I don't know then. It may depend on how Network Magic gets this information as to where the problem lies. If Security Center was enabled and ++ wasn't reported as active, I'd suggest you check that Firewall is ticked in OA. The other possibility is that the repository has become corrupted as this can cause the wrong firewall to be reported as being on. However, since this concerns a third party program rather than the Security Center I'm not sure whether any of this would even apply. Hopefully someone else will have further suggestions.

I use Network Magic, and never had any issues. Unfortunately i won't be able to check this until I get home next week. Right now I am on a broadband connection with no network.

Make sure all of NM stuff is trusted.

I'm not familiar with Network Magic, however most of these types of programs simply read what the Windows Security Center is reporting. Unfortunately the Windows Security Center tends to be a bit buggy.

The easiest way to tell is to simply check the Windows Firewall to see if it's on, then open Online Armor and look in General to make sure there is a check next to Firewall. If the Windows Firewall is off and Online Armor's firewall is on, then that will tell you what you need to know :)

Of course you can also check the Windows Security Center to see what it's reporting. If it does indeed only recognize the Windows Firewall then you can try resetting the WMI repository (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm), if you wish.

Thanks everybody. I'll give it a try and report back the results a.s.a.p.

update: I tried everything as suggested to no avail.
Must be something else... The network reports generated and send by Cisco clearly show OA enabled and WFW disabled. I'm only wondering what may cause that issue.

Hi webfact,

Can you enable Windows Security Center? If so, please do that and see if it recognized the OA++ firewall. I expect that it does. Then, you can disable the Windows Security Center again. Next, check to see if Network Magic recognize OA++ filewall.
